This event features a conference led by César Lorenzo Rubio, a historian, alongside Carlota Falgueras i Marsal, a former political prisoner. They will explore the history of the Women’s Provincial Prison of Barcelona, which opened in 1963 and operated for two decades, incarcerating thousands of women, primarily from poor backgrounds, for common crimes. Notably, it also held numerous students and political activists. Attendees will learn about the harsh repression these women faced from the Evangelical Crusader nuns who oversaw the prison. This conference presents the first comprehensive analysis of this institution, highlighting key historical events and including personal testimonies from around forty women who experienced life in this forgotten prison, aiming to recover the memory of a long-neglected reality.
