Join us for a conference organized by the Archaeology Service and the Museum of History of Barcelona, focusing on a significant recent archaeological finding during the expansion work of the Gran Hotel Barcino, located at 3 Hercules Street in Barcelona. This discovery has led to the identification of an important monumental stone pavement from Montjüic, dating back to the foundational period of the Roman colony, and belonging to the Forum of Barcino. The findings challenge previous assumptions about the location and orientation of the forum, a central element of civic life in Roman times. Traditionally, it was thought that the forum aligned with the cardo, but new archaeological data suggests it was parallel to the decumanus, warranting a 90-degree shift in interpreting the urban layout of the colony’s center.
