'Umuko' is a dynamic dance and live music performance inspired by the vibrant red tree of the same name that shapes the landscape of Rwanda. Invoking the 'umuko,' a tree symbolic of healing and ancestral roots, Dorothée Munyaneza invites five young artists - poets, dancers, and musicians from the Rwandan scene - to weave past legacies with a bold creative future. The evening merges past and future, tradition and renewal, resulting in a powerful and poetic exploration of cultural heritage, identity, and connection using bodies, music, and light. Based in Marseille, Dorothée Munyaneza is a multidisciplinary artist who encompasses music, singing, text, and movement to address rupture as a dynamic force. From her own journey of moving from Rwanda to England in 1994, Munyaneza creates a resonant space that captures the body, memory, and our time. She is a well-respected artist, receiving various accolades and continuously engaging in a myriad of artistic projects.
