Exploring Escapism in Art
Elena Garrigolas presents 'Maladaptive Daydreaming,' a unique installation that blends painting, drawing, and animation to dissect the boundaries of human experience. Through her work, Garrigolas reflects on a life marked by emotional repression and challenges societal norms regarding beauty and the maternal bond. Her pieces feature surreal, anthropomorphic figures that evoke a spectrum of emotions, illuminating the theme of excessive daydreaming as both an escapist strategy and a form of survival. Accompanied by a narrative from writer Mar Bosch, this work provokes thoughts on identity and the complexity of desire, encouraging audiences to reflect on how fantasies can both liberate and alienate us in our quest for understanding.
