A tribute to Conxita Badia (1897-1975). David Alegret, tenor, and Maria Canyigueral, piano, present the fifth concert directed by Maria Canyigueral in the VI Chamber Music Cycle at Teatre Sarrià, titled "The Voice of the Word." This concert pays heartfelt tribute to the great soprano Conxita Badia, a prominent interpreter and muse for composers like Eduard Toldrà, Frederic Mompou, Xavier Montsalvatge, Enric Granados, and Manuel de Falla. Her sensitivity, expressiveness, and commitment to Catalan culture made her a key figure in promoting Catalan song, dignifying it as a first-rate artistic genre. This poetic and sonic journey through different generations of Catalan composers centers on the works of Eduard Toldrà, intimately linked to Badia's figure. We will hear a selection of her songs based on poems by Josep Carner. In the second part, the voice of tradition transforms: we will listen to the perspective of contemporary composers like Benet Casablancas, featuring the premiere of his "Díptic," and songs by Eduard Iniesta and Héctor Parra, opening new expressive paths in the art of set music. Their works engage with the poetry of J.V. Foix, Pere Quart, Rosa Leveroni, Anna Dodas, and Mercè Rodoreda. The concert will conclude with a selection of songs based on poems by Tomàs Garcés, from the cycle "Twenty Songs," set to music by various composers, including Xavier Montsalvatge, Joaquim Zamacois, Joaquim Serra, Eduard Toldrà, and Francesc Pujol. This musical evening vitalizes the commitment between music and poetry, between past and present, between voice and the soul of Catalan culture. The concert will feature comments and an introduction by musicologist Xavier Chavarria, a broadcaster and producer for Catalunya Música. Schedule: Thursday at 20:00. Prices: General admission ranges from €5 to €30.
