Monet's series of water lilies introduced the concept of blurriness in art, using the vague and imprecise as expressive elements. This exhibition explores how this phenomenon represented a new way of understanding the world for later artists, key to reinterpreting a part of modern and contemporary plastic creation. Long considered a paragon of abstract painting, this series has also been a precursor to large immersive installations. However, the blurry effect characterizing the vast water surfaces in the paintings has never been analyzed and is now seen as a real aesthetic choice. Starting from the aesthetic roots of blurriness in the 19th and early 20th centuries, and following the intellectual, scientific, social, and artistic upheavals that accompanied Impressionism, the exhibition is structured in sections mixing paintings, videos, photographs, and installations by various artists such as Alberto Giacometti, Gerhard Richter, Mark Rothko, Eva Nielsens, Claude Monet, Thomas Ruff, Alfredo Jaar, Soledad Sevilla, Christian Boltanski, Mame-Diarra Niang, and Bill Viola, among others.
