Join us for a guided tour of the Model Prison of Barcelona, an emblematic site reflecting the memory of political prisoners during the Franco regime. Led by experts Joan Sanromà and Joan Bové from the association of former political prisoners, this tour delves into the history of the prison, which opened in 1904 and served as a blueprint for similar institutions. Despite intentions of reform, it became notorious for holding political prisoners, especially in the 1940s. The prison is situated in the heart of the city, surrounded by a growing urban landscape, which adds a poignant context to its history. In 2017, after long-standing community advocacy, the prison was officially closed. The tour will meet at the main entrance of the Model, located on Carrer Entença. This event allows attendees to engage with important historical narratives and reflect on the struggle for democracy in Barcelona.
