Exhibition: The Atomic Era


The Atomic Era will explore the profound impact of atomic energy on human life and the natural world. Triggered by the 1945 atomic detonation in the New Mexico desert, this exhibition delves into the intertwined themes of science, politics, and culture as expressed through 20th and 21st-century art. Beginning with discoveries in physics from 1890 that questioned the solidity of matter, artists responded with a mix of scientific insight, mysticism, and conceptual transformations. The exhibition highlights responses to the atomic bomb and its devastating use against Japan, showing various artistic reactions ranging from aesthetic fascination with physics to new representations of tragedy and the sublime. Furthermore, it addresses nuclear history in Spain, from early reactor constructions during Franco's regime to current nuclear power debates.
