The exhibition 'Montserrat, Mother and Land' explores the intersection of devotional collecting and the cultural significance of Montserrat, particularly the veneration of the Virgin Mary, the monastery, and the mountain itself. It showcases a diverse collection of devotional artworks from different eras alongside personal collections curated by Frederic Marès. The exhibition aims to delve into the evolution of the iconography of the Virgin of Montserrat, illustrating the various popular devotional objects associated with her worship and tracing their dissemination through prints. Highlighting exceptional pieces from the collection, it emphasizes the deep-rooted impact of Montserrat's themes on contemporary artistic creation. Over forty works are displayed, consisting mainly of items from the museum’s own holdings, augmented by loans from various museums and private collectors.
