From the Greek myth of Icarus and Leonardo da Vinci's flying machine to Montgolfier's hot air balloons and the first flight in Barcelona in 1910, the city was deeply influenced by the ongoing industrial evolution and the potential for conquering the skies. This was reflected in the leisure activities of the affluent society, who organized motorcycle and car races as well as hot air balloon and aviation spectacles. The emergence of airplanes marked a significant accomplishment in the quest for aerial conquest, evolving from mere sporting events to becoming key tools for cartography through aerial photography. The exhibition "Barcelona and the Sky: Balloons, Airplanes, and Photography" aims to showcase the history of how our city has engaged with the urban sky, beginning with the first balloon that captured photographs in 1888 and culminating in the establishment of aerial photogrammetry techniques.
