Directed by Jeff Knipp, this 127-minute film from the USA (1999) is based on the story of writer Susanna Kaysen during her 18-month stay in a psychiatric hospital in the 1960s. Diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, Kaysen struggled with a confused and insecure youth while trying to understand the world around her. In the treatment center, she forms a close friendship with another patient, which helps her find her path. Angelina Jolie won an Oscar, a Golden Globe, and a SAG Award for Best Supporting Actress (2000).
