The film of the same name by Luis Buñuel serves as the origin of an operatic world; Thomas Adès' opera, musically directed at the Liceu, transforms this universe into a fascinating sound architecture. This production, directed by Calixto Bieito for the Opéra national de Paris, follows the dissolution of robes, hierarchies, and rituals in an aristocratic salon, where the greeting of freedom is strangled by miscommunication and repetition. The production features stage direction by Calixto Bieito, musical surprises, and the Liceu Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Thomas Adès.
