In November, the MACBA celebrates its thirtieth anniversary. To mark this occasion, we will roll out a program consisting of live arts, music, and performance that aims to reflect not just the institutional memory of the museum but the aspirations and desires that led to its creation in 1995. The program invites reflection on the constitutive power of rumor: the seemingly trivial word-of-mouth that exists within any community and serves as a means for sharing cultural experiences and references. This rumble bestows an aura of mystery upon anonymous books and manuscripts found in bottles. It is the enigma surrounding disappeared artists, stolen works of art, unreleased records, and censored films. Ultimately, it embodies the mythological force of the narratives that survive us. The poetics of murmur challenge the solemnity of the museum and, instead, appeals to the lightness of the unfinished, undocumented, or even unrealized, providing spaces for imagination and conjecture.
