The Fossar de la Pedrera at Montjuïc Cemetery is a memorial space dedicated to the victims of repression and Francoist bombings, thanks to a citizen struggle that began courageously during the difficult times of the Transition. This unique space, which was a mass grave, contains the remains of people without resources, victims of bombings over Barcelona - from Italian, German, and Francoist aviation during the Spanish War of 1936-1939 - and over 1,700 people executed by the Franco regime in Barcelona between 1939 and 1952. It was reopened in 1985 as an architecturally significant memorial, where among other monuments, lies the tomb of President Lluís Companys. Our guide, a great connoisseur of the country's historical memory, will reveal to attendees the details of the Fossar, which contains a memorial project designed by Catalan architect Beth Galí.
