Join us for the presentation of the graphic novel '70 Cents: The Tram Strike of 1951', a work published by the City Council of Barcelona and Kairat. The novel, authored by Xavi Roca and illustrated by Xabier Sagasta, vividly depicts the massive, spontaneous public protest that led to the trams being boycotted in March 1951. It contextualizes the situation in 1950s Barcelona, highlighting the government's repression, censorship, economic challenges, and social inequalities. The tram system, essential yet ineffectively managed, became particularly burdensome for the working class. This uprising was a pivotal moment in the collective resistance against Franco’s regime, promoting labor organization and influencing future political and social changes. The book will be presented at El Born's History Museum, featuring discussions with notable historians and the authors.
