The Casa Orlandai participates once again in the Global Justice program of the Sarrià - Sant Gervasi District, promoting reflection on human rights and solidarity. This December, we host two talks and the exhibition 'Women in Taliban Afghanistan' by the organization Bridges for Peace. The cycle highlights the repression faced by Afghan women and the struggles they undertake to defend their education, freedom, and dignity. Malalai Joya gained international recognition when, in 2003, during an Assembly in Kabul, she stood up and denounced the powerful warlords of her country. After becoming the youngest MP in Afghanistan's history, the activist, writer, and politician was persecuted during the twenty years of U.S. occupation and survived several assassination attempts until she was forced to flee to Spain in 2021 after the Taliban regained power. In this conference, Malalai Joya will analyze the current social and political context of Afghanistan and the consequences of the Taliban regime for women, highlighting the long struggle of women in this country and the role that Global North countries play in the Taliban power system. Organized by Sarrià-Sant Gervasi for Global Justice and International Cooperation.
