Funeral Botany Tour

The cemeteries of Barcelona and the Botanical Institute of Barcelona invite you to explore the vegetation of Montjuïc Cemetery. Following the work titled 'Principles of Funeral Botany', published in 1885 by Celestí Barallat, you will learn about the meaning of the plants and trees present in the cemetery and how they contribute to the ideal of a garden cemetery. You will also discover the most significant funerary monuments in the area, which contain representative plant symbolism of our funeral culture.
