Josep Cercós i Fransí (1925-1989) is a significant yet underappreciated figure in the evolution of music in Catalonia during the 20th century. In honor of his centenary, this exhibition aims to elevate awareness of his contributions and contextualize his work within the cultural and musical milieu of his era. Cercós, both a pianist and composer, navigated the rich traditions of classical music while engaging with the groundbreaking shifts of the 20th century. In the late 1940s, he participated in young composers' gatherings at the Institut Francès in Barcelona and subsequently travelled to Switzerland to immerse himself in the foundations of 'new music'. This journey positioned him among the pioneers of Catalan musical avant-garde. In the late 1950s, he aspired to make a living through composition, seeking opportunities in Barcelona, Madrid, Paris, and Geneva.
