This exhibition focuses on the life and contributions of Josep Cerçós, an influential yet lesser-known composer and pianist from Barcelona, whose career spanned from 1925 to 1989. It marks the centenary of his birth by highlighting the importance of his work in the evolution of music in Catalonia during the second half of the 20th century. Cerçós was deeply rooted in the classical music tradition while also engaging with the innovations of modern music. In the late 1940s, he participated in meetings of young composers at the Institut Francès in Barcelona, paving the way for his studies in Switzerland on the foundations of 'new music.' He emerged as a pioneer of Catalan musical avant-garde but later distanced himself from extreme musical experimentation due to disillusionment with existing trends.
