Exhibition of Esther Boix's Artwork

Esther Boix i Pons (1927-2014) is a remarkable figure in art, exemplifying resilience and transformation. She began her artistic journey with somber paintings reflecting the oppressive post-war reality—depicting humble interiors and existential despair. After studying in Paris and Milan, her work underwent a significant evolution, becoming vibrant and socially engaged. Boix viewed painting as a medium for advocating individual and collective rights. She actively participated in movements like Estampa Popular Catalana and the antifranco struggle. Additionally, she was instrumental in founding the L'ARC School of Expression, nurturing future generations of artists. In her later years, she focused on landscapes, merging nature with humanity in a lyrical, ecological celebration. This exhibition marks her first major retrospective in Catalunya since 2007, honoring her contributions as she nears the centennial of her birth, curated by Bernat Puigdollers.
