The exhibition 'Allotjar les majories. Barcelona, 1860-2010' addresses the ongoing challenges of housing in contemporary cities. It highlights the persistent issues faced by working-class residents in Barcelona due to a lack of accessible housing. The exhibition chronicles the evolution of housing policies and access for urban majorities throughout the 20th century, covering the journey from unaffordable rents at the beginning of the century, the severe post-war housing crisis, the forced home ownership during the later Franco regime, to the progress made during democratic transitions. Although significant improvements occurred in public spaces, the effectiveness of interventions in housing remained limited, prompting an urgent discussion around sustainable solutions for urban living.
