This conference explores the pivotal role women played in various uprisings during the 18th century, particularly the French Revolution, emphasizing their intellectual contributions and activism in the streets. It discusses the impact of women's rights movements, including the pro-feminist figures who catalyzed later feminist movements. Furthermore, attendees will examine the effects of the Industrial Revolution in the 19th century and the two World Wars in the 20th century on women’s rights and social roles. The talk will also highlight the advances in women's rights in the 20th century, while identifying possible setbacks in the current era. The session is led by Carme Mestres, a retired geography and history professor with a master's in Women's Studies from DUODA, who brings a wealth of insight into women's historical advancements and struggles.
