Join us for an engaging conference led by Josep Maria Contel, a member of the Gràcia History Workshop and Centre for Studies. We'll explore the history of one of the most famous inns on Gran de Gràcia Street, 'Fonda de la Unión', also known as the 'Fonda dels Ninots', during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This establishment was renowned for its unique showcases crafted by Lluís Barrillón and Polina, who created figures from various vegetables and other ingredients representative of the inn's offerings, including peppers, tender beans, potatoes, sweet potatoes, eggplants, broccoli, carrots, lettuces, escaroles, cabbages, turnips, artichokes, and corn cobs. This creative display became a tradition that lasted for several decades. This event is in collaboration with the Festa Major de Gràcia Foundation, Institut Ramon Muntaner, Generalitat de Catalunya, and the City Council of Barcelona-Gràcia.
