On Wednesday, September 17 at 7:00 PM, the chess section and Tres Peons have organized a conference at the Virreina hall. It will be given by Spanish language and literature professor Josep Mercadé Riambau, who has researched the theme of chess in literature for over thirty years. In this conference, he will explain how the game has inspired writers throughout history, from Borges to Stefan Zweig, Nabokov, and Arturo Pérez-Reverte. We will see how the 64-square board becomes a metaphor for life and power, exploring the symbolism of the chessboard and its pieces, and discussing the relationship of chess with death, love, and religion.
