The Reconstruct project addresses the pressing challenge of circularity in architecture and construction, advocating for sustainable practices that are essential in a sector heavily impacting the environment. This MATERTalk, led by José Lucas Masero from the Institute of Construction Technology of Catalonia (ITEC), will delve into building circularity, showcasing two real-scale demonstration buildings, one located in Catalonia. By utilizing local materials with low carbon content, as well as recovered components and design strategies for deconstruction, Reconstruct aims to minimize waste and CO₂ emissions by up to 80%. The session will offer a practical insight into the fundamental principles of design for circularity and the tools that can empower professionals now and in the future, including material traceability, material passports, and life cycle planning for buildings. Organized by MATERFAD, the Materials Centre of Barcelona.
