Few life moments are as transformative as the experience of creating life. In recent years, several authors have utilized the resources of the fantastic genre to break taboos surrounding motherhood, narrating how this experience, or the inability to experience it, can be terrifying and distressing. Elisenda Solsona has done this with her work 'Mammalia' (Males Herbes, Ictineu Award winner and Omnium finalist), a dystopia that illustrates the extremes one might go to in the fight against infertility and the consequences of surrogacy. Laura Tomàs Mora, on the other hand, has chosen the short story format to address the transformation that comes with having children in 'Matermorfosis' (Medusa). Additionally, Mar García Puig, following her success with the novel 'The History of Vertebrates', opts for an essay format in 'Això tan tenebros' (La Magrana; in Spanish, 'Esa cosa de tinieblas', Debate), discussing women, literature, and metaphors with clear codes of genres like gothic. Another author, Inés MacPherson, who has raised questions about the constraints women face, will lead the conversation with Solsona, Tomàs, and García Puig, where their claims will surely take center stage.
